Galderma’s Restylane Contour is known as the “game changer” of dermal fillers

With so many types of dermal fillers on the market, there is no longer a need for more and more cosmetic enhancements (unless you want, of course). As these treatments become more and more common, the technology and formula behind them are constantly improving. This week, the Swiss pharmaceutical company Galderma announced in a press release that its latest facial filler, Restylane Contour, has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), “for increasing the cheeks of adults over age and correcting defects in the middle facial contours. There are 21 in total.”
The treatment is the latest product in the company’s Restylane hyaluronic acid (HA) injection series, designed to give the cheeks volume and contour. “The cheeks are the cornerstone of the face, and focusing on natural contours rather than just volume loss can produce dynamic expressions and amplify their natural beauty,” Dr. Leslie Baumann, MD, a board-certified dermatologist and lead researcher in Miami’s clinical trial at Restylane Contour In, he said in a press release. “As we age, the level of hyaluronic acid in the skin will decrease, causing facial deformation and increasing the likelihood of wrinkles and folds.”
Although there is no shortage of facial fillers on the market, Galderma claims that the significant difference of Restylane Contour is its smooth gel consistency, which allows it to move with the face and provide extremely natural results. Smita Ramanadham, a board-certified plastic surgeon in New Jersey, told Allure: “This is unique because it creates a flexible, smooth gel that combines with skin and soft tissues to lift and plump in a very natural way. The gel is Dynamic, you can move and use your facial expressions to achieve the natural results we all want.”
“Normally, I feel that the HA products we currently have can’t tolerate dynamic expressions sometimes. I can foresee that this will change the rules of the game for facial contouring and coordination,” added Stacey Chimento, a dermatologist certified by the Miami Board of Directors.
Like any cosmetic surgery, Restylane Contour has the risk of side effects. Galderna reports that although 85% of patients participating in clinical trials did not experience any adverse reactions, “the most common side effects of injection cheeks are bruising, redness, swelling, pain, tenderness and itching at the injection site.”
